Google’s online applications are getting ready to go offline for mobile usage. The company is launching the ability to access their online applications offline via Google Gears on mobile devices according to their Mobile Blog.
Initially available for Pocket Internet Explorer, eventually the service will be utilized for Safari on the iPhone and Opera Mobile as well.
This move is starting to solidify Google’s position in the mobile realm as Mashable points out. Finally, Google is thinking about how it can extend its territory behind its desktop online integration.
By touting integration with services such as Zoho and Buxfer, Google is clearly happy to help competitors enter this arena as well. Or perhaps this is simply a maneuver to combat Microsoft’s recent moves into the online world (our coverage). Either way, look for things to change by the time Google’s mobile platform Android is released.
