I.ndigo is launching its Dekks social application for business and education customers. The software allows companies and their employees to build a knowledge network using a Twitter like approach to posting notes and rating answers.
The application, unveiling at this week’s DEMOfall 09, is built for employees to ask “who knows the answer” to work-related questions and then get answers back that they can share with the crowd. Of course, email can be used for the same purpose. But the Sao Paulo, Brazil-based company says you can also use Dekks to compile statistics about who answer questions, allowing you to identify people with the widest knowledge on a lot of different subjects. The software can also be used to get the pulse of the work force and what they’re concerned about.
This one looked much better on stage than it did in the press release. It is not just a Twitter clone or wiki. When you type in a query, it suggests tags that you can use. On top of that, it suggests which people in the enterprise are interested in the related tags. You can cc them on the conversation. On top of that, you can get a spider-web style view of the experts in your company, a sort of who knows what and who they are connected to in the enterprise. You can also get a view of the enterprise’s knowledge from a “brain view.” That is another way of looking at all of the major topics of interest to people in the company.
The basic service is free and more sophisticated reporting tools cost $2 per user per month. The software has a web-based interface and requires no installation. It offers a real-time stream of information about what’s happening within the enterprise. It has built-in security, lets employees create notes with all sorts of feedback features. You can set deadlines for answers and append attachments to the requests. You can tag messages so they can be easily searched.
