The iMac just got sexy again: Apple has announced a shockingly thin new iMac that measures just 5 millimeters thick.
Perhaps what’s most surprising about this announcement is that we hadn’t heard much about it before today’s event. The new iMac is so thin, it barely even looks like a functioning computer.
The new iMac comes in 21.5-inch and 27-inch variations, and its screen features buzzword technology like “full lamination design” and “plasma deposition process,” all of which aim to make it brighter, clearer, and 75 percent less reflective than past iMacs.

On the storage side, the new iMac comes with Apple’s “Fusion Drive,” which combines speedy solid-state storage with a traditional larger hard drive. The two drives are “fused together with software,” Apple marketing VP Phil Schiller said on stage today. The Fusion Drive technology keeps the operating system and core applications on the SSD, and uses the larger drive for more traditional storage. It’s also smart enough to move your most commonly used apps to the SSD.
Apple’s new iMac starts at $1,299 for the 21.5-inch version, and $1,799 for the 27-inch version.
