Twitch, the world’s leading video-streaming service for gamers, revealed today that over 20 percent of its broadcasters are using the PlayStation 4 console to share their video game sessions.

This is impressive considering that this ratio was only 10 percent less than a month ago, and the PS4 released in mid-November, less than two months ago. Twitch has grown rapidly since its 2011 launch: the website now boasts over 45 million visitors per month, with 700,000 unique monthly broadcasters as of December.

According to Matthew DiPietro, the vice president of marketing for Twitch, “Ever since we began working with the major console platform companies, we were confident the integration of live broadcasting to Twitch would be a game changer.” The data released today suggests its confidence was warranted. Between Dec. 23 and Jan. 3, at least one out of every five Twitch broadcasts was streaming from a PlayStation 4. Part of this success is due to how the service is integrated with the system in a user-friendly manner: Players simply need to hit the “Share” button on the PS4 controller to start blasting out screenshots and video of their game activities to the world. Of course, the hot sales of the PS4 console have helped bring in big numbers of potential users as well.

The success of Twitch on PlayStation 4 shows that many console gamers are actually interested in sharing their gaming sessions, an ideological victory in the uncharted territory of this video game generation. DiPietro said that the people behind Twitch “envision a day when broadcasting your gameplay is a ubiquitous piece of the gaming experience.” He believes that they “are well on their way.”
