Microsoft has shipped 3.9 million Xbox Ones to retailers worldwide.
The company reported results for its second quarter today. It made $24.52 billion in revenue during those three months, which is a new record for the multimedia conglomerate. Part of that success comes from the gaming division. Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s latest Xbox One console both performed well and helped Microsoft push forward as a big player in the multibillion-dollar video game industry.
“The company sold 7.4 million Xbox console units into the retail channel, including 3.9 million Xbox One consoles and 3.5 million Xbox 360 consoles,” reads the financial report.
Those numbers represent the number of Xbox One consoles Microsoft has shipped to retailers. It does not necessarily reflect the amount of consoles that consumers purchased. Earlier this month, Microsoft confirmed it sold more than 3 million Xbox Ones worldwide between Nov. 22 and the end of 2013.

Both Xbox consoles helped Microsoft perform well over the holiday season.
“The Xbox led the U.S. with a 42 percent market share [in Q2],” Microsoft chief financial officer Amy Hood said on a conference call with investors.
Xbox 360 was one of the best-selling consoles in the U.S. over the last few years. Microsoft launched the Xbox One on Nov. 22 with the hopes that it could continue that success while fending off direct competition from Sony’s PlayStation 4 and more abstract competition from products like iPad and free-to-play computer games.
