Microsoft: Give us your PlayStation 3, and we’ll give you $100 to put toward an Xbox One

Microsoft wants to help you pay for the Xbox One, and all it’s asking for in return is your old gaming consoles.

Select Microsoft Stores around the U.S. are currently participating in a special offer that gives customers $100 in store credit to help purchase an Xbox One when they trade in a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 S, or Xbox 360 E. People can take their old consoles to one of the corporation’s retail locations around the country, and Microsoft will hand over the credit.

You don’t have to buy an Xbox One at the time of the exchange, but Microsoft’s fine print says that is the only way to receive the “maximum” value for your old gaming box. The legal disclaimer also explains that the Microsoft Store can offer less in trade depending on the condition of the PS3 or Xbox 360, so make sure you clean off the Cheetos stains before you take it in.

To get $100 in store credit for a PlayStation 3 at GameStop, gamers would need to exchange the latest 500GB model. Currently, a 160GB PlayStation 3 Slim is selling for between $125 and $200 on eBay.

Microsoft is offering this deal through March 2. We’ve reached out to the company to ask what it will do with the old Sony hardware.
