Better start stocking up on fresh, dry pants, because publisher Bethesda plans to release The Evil Within later this year.

The survival-horror game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is due out Aug. 26 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. It will have players taking control of detective Sebastian Castellanos as he rushes to investigate a mass murder. Of course, things aren’t that simple, and Castellanos wakes up in a dingy hellscape filled with monsters that probably want to eat his face.

Mikami and his development house, Tango Gameworks, are working to make The Evil Within terrifying. The studio wants to step back from the action that recent survival-horror games, like Resident Evil 6, have focused on in favor of scares and screams.

Bethesda Softworks, the publisher best known for The Elder Scrolls role-playing games, owns Tango Gameworks and is handling distribution. The game is also using Bethesda’s game-development tool known as id Tech 5, which its subsidiary id first developed for the visually stunning Rage.

The Evil Within is one of the biggest upcoming new properties. It joins a handful of others, like shooters Titanfall and Destiny, that are hoping to find hungry audiences on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. As one of the few big-budget survival-horror games in development, The Evil Within is potentially Bethesda’s next major franchise.
