Soon you won’t have to wait 20 seconds for hot water to come out of the shower.
Days after ISI Technology raised more than $436,000 from a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new, Internet-enabled type of water heater, the company is revealing $2 million in seed funding to help the cause.
The new money comes from existing investors. One of ISI’s previous investors is SC Launch, an economic-development program from SCRA Technology Ventures.
Now ISI will be all set to move its Heatworks Model1 tankless water heaters into consumers’ homes, right alongside connected devices like a Nest connected thermostat, a Kwikset connected door lock, a set of Philips Hue connected light bulbs, and a Samsung connected fridge.

Like other connected devices in the emerging Internet of Things, the Heatworks system will be able to transmit data about operations — temperature, power, and time used — over the Internet using Wi-Fi signal. The connectivity will let you set the exact temperature for a shower and limit power usage from an external computer.
That’s not just cool. It could save power, water, and money, too. ISI claims you’ll be able to cut as much as 40 percent of energy usage and 10 percent of water usage with its Heatworks system. Such savings are possible because the water heater delivers water with the right temperature instantly. It heats water molecules instead of using a heating element.
ISI, based in Charleston, S.C., has more than 1,500 of its water heaters on order now.
No word yet on whether external control for the system will be password-protected to keep delinquents from turning your shower freezing cold.
