Following a series of rumors yesterday, Apple has expanded its iPhone 5C line with a smaller, more affordable 8 gigabyte size in some countries.
Previously only available in 16GB and 32GB storage sizes, the unlocked 8GB device retails for £429 or approximately $713 in the U.K. — that’s £40 or roughly $66.47 cheaper than Apple’s 16GB option.
Apple’s decision to introduce a cheaper device follows reports of disappointing iPhone 5C sales. Sales were so slow back in October 2013 that Apple reportedly cut 20% of its production orders for the 5C. Others reported that 5C production was cut by as much as 35%, while iPhone 5S sales were higher than expected.

Clearly, Apple isn’t giving up on the 5C. Unfortunately, the 8GB 5C launch is currently restricted to parts of Europe, Australia, and China — there’s no sign of a similar debut in the U.S. just yet.
