Apple is taking a new approach to giving out tickets for its next Worldwide Developers Conference.
For the next WWDC, which will begin on June 2 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center, you’ll have to sign up for a lottery to score a ticket, Apple announced today.
In the past, WWDC tickets typically sold out quickly, leaving many potential attendees out of luck. The random lottery should make the ticketing system fairer, though it’s surely going to annoy many. It’s also pretty much the same thing Google is doing for its I/O developer conference in late June.
The five-day event will include more than 100 sessions on developing for iOS and Mac OSX. Tickets are $1,599 apiece, and Apple also offers 200 student scholarships to the event.

Developers can sign up for the lottery at the WWDC site from today until April 7.
