SAN FRANCISCO — Apple had lots of good news for developers here at WWDC today. But one of the standouts is a new development platform called CloudKit that should simplify app creation.

Developers usually must perform client-side and server-side development on two separate tracks, which can be expensive, time-consuming, and redundant. They must also provide the server storage space for app assets and development resources.

With CloudKit, Apple takes control of the server-side development so developers can focus on the client-side work.

It also provides cloud storage for up to a petabyte of app assets, backup for up to a terabyte of resources, and space for transfer up to 5 terabytes of data.
