Today Google announced that it is in “early engagement with LG to make a consumer-scale” Project Tango device next year.
The announcement came at the tech firm’s annual I/O developer conference in San Francisco.
Google describes Tango as an initiative to “give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.” In their current form, Tango devices feature 3D motion and depth sensing — not entirely unlike Amazon’s Fire Phone.
“We are currently working actively with companies as well as universities to improve the software stack,” Google said. “We’re excited to announce that we’re starting early engagement with LG to make a consumer-scale device next year … We have early integrations with both Unity and the Unreal Engine. If you know how to use these tools, you can build a Project Tango app.”
