REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft is bringing its Cortana personal digital assistant to Windows 10.
Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s operating systems group, today demonstrated Cortana in action inside early builds of the forthcoming Windows operating system, showing it doing impersonations, making predictions about sports games that are tailored to the user, and answering questions on the fly.
It can track flights, show stock prices, and surface news on the home page, Belfiore said.
Information can come from the desktop, or from online services like Microsoft’s OneDrive for consumer and business use.

A PC running Windows 10 with Cortana can understand natural-language queries, like, “Hey, Cortana, please be quiet.” In Belfiore’s demo, music that was playing was instantly paused.
Cortana competes with Google Now and Apple’s Siri.
