The deal is real — Twitter has definitely acquired live video streaming startup Periscope. Confirmation came in the form of — you guessed it — a tweet:

Twitter retweeted that tweet — basically confirming that the deal is official.
“We have nothing else to share right now beyond @periscopeco’s Tweets, but stay tuned,” a Twitter spokeswoman told VentureBeat in an email.

Earlier this week VentureBeat wrote about reports suggesting that the deal was going down.
The deal comes as Twitter video app Meerkat has been getting plenty of buzz, all of which suggests there’s potential for making live video a big, fun part of Twitter.
Periscope Android engineer and former Twitter employee Sara Haider tweeted out today that she has found herself once again working for Twitter:

And even Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey came out and said — on Twitter, of course — a few words about Periscope’s impact:

Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Bernstein started San Francisco-based Periscope in February 2014.
