Broadcom is taking its association with Apple’s HomeKit platform to the next level with the announcement of a new Internet of Things platform called WICED.
The platform, called the Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED), will provide the cloud interface for connected devices running Broadcom chips. The technology will ensure that all of those devices integrate easily with iPhones, iPads, and other Apple products.
WICED will help developers and OEMs create home automation devices that connect easily to home networks. Devices will be controlled from a HomeKit-supported app on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, Broadcom says.
The company will distribute a software development kit (SDK) to developers that includes full HomeKit support.
