GitHub is partnering with online-learning startup Udacity to offer its first nanodegrees in the Ruby programming language.
Kicking off immediately with Beginning Ruby, this will be followed by Ruby on Rails Developer and Senior Ruby on Rails, which are expected to launch sometime in 2016.
Beginning Ruby is expected to take around 2 to 3 months to complete, based on a minimum of 10 hours per week schedule, and will cost $200 per month. The two follow-up courses will cost the same, except they will take around 6 to 9 months each to complete.
The co-created courses will feature Udacity’s teachers, as well as “supplemental interviews” and additional content from GitHub’s own Ruby instructors.

While this is Udacity’s first proper foray into Ruby, fellow ed-tech startup Codecademy launched a Ruby course back in 2012, while other coder-focused learning services offer it too. But with $160 million in funding to its name, including a chunky $105 million round it closed just last month, this is a notable move by Udacity, though it may not be entirely surprising. Last month, it revealed plans to offer between 40 and 50 new courses by the end of 2016, a marked increase on the 12 it currently offers.
