Our new reality: one where people no longer have to wait months to receive an Oculus Rift they bought in January.
Oculus said today that all preorders for its Rift virtual reality headset have now shipped. The $600 Rift came out on March 28, but production shortages frustrated many who bought the device early, as a lot of customers had to wait months before receiving their headset.
“We want to apologize for the delays in getting Rifts to doorsteps,” Oculus noted on its site. “We appreciate that without your support, VR wouldn’t be where it is today. Thank you for your patience over the past few months.”
Oculus added that all new orders of the Rift will ship within two to four business days. It also noted that it’s ramping up inventory for retail stores (both online and traditional).
If you still want to try a Rift out before deciding if you want to buy one, Oculus is sending more demo units to 500 Best Buy stores and select Microsoft Stores in the U.S. starting this month.
