Right on schedule, Apple today released iOS 10, the next version of its mobile operating system, for all devices that are eligible for the free update.
People who have taken part in the public betas and the developer betas have been able to preview the new release in the months since Apple first unveiled iOS 10, but now it’s available to all others with compatible devices.
Today’s release contains updated versions of Apple Maps, Apple Music, Apple News, Messages, and Photos; a new Home app for controlling Internet-connected devices; third-party app integrations for the Siri virtual assistant; a raise to wake feature; a redesigned lock screen with support for 3D Touch gestures; contextual predictions in the default QuickType virtual keyboard; and Apple Pay support on the web, among other things.
In other words, it’s a solid move forward from iOS 9.

Here’s the list of devices that support this update: iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, fourth-generation iPad, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, and sixth-generation iPod Touch.
Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, revealed last week, will ship with iOS 10.
