The merger of Tesla Motors and SolarCity is not yet final, but Elon Musk is already “aiming for” an October 28 unveiling for the pair’s first integrated product: a “solar roof” — not solar panels, but an entire roof.

“It’s not a thing on the roof. It is the roof,” Musk said in August during SolarCity’s latest earnings call. On Twitter today, Musk added that the upcoming roof will connect to Tesla’s updated Powerwall home battery system and vehicle charger.

Tesla announced its bid to buy SolarCity in June with an offer valued as high as $2.78 billion. But some investors have challenged the deal. Musk blamed the delay of his Tesla Autopilot 8.0 announcement, in part, on merger pushback earlier this month.

Regarding the litigation, “one plaintiff seeks an injunction to stop the transaction, potentially holding up a deal until a hearing on Oct. 18 at the earliest,” Bloomberg wrote on Monday.

We’ll simply add that if Elon Musk announces a tentative date for something — a new car, a master plan — remember that time is an illusion and the final date may change.
