Twitch just made sure that it’ll continue to broadcast action from one of the world’s largest esports providers.
The livestreaming site announced today that it has renewed its deal with DreamHack, which runs competitive gaming shows in North America and Europe. DreamHack is one of the site’s oldest partners, making this the ninth year Twitch will broadcast its competitions. According to DreamHack, its events in 2016 drew 233,000 visitors and over 135 million broadcast viewers. Twitch is the leader in the livestreaming field, attracting over 100 million users a month.
“DreamHack is not only one of our longest running partners, they are immensely popular among the Twitch community,” said Stuart Saw, director of esports strategy at Twitch, in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “As the esports industry continues to evolve, DreamHack has been at the forefront of the movement with our partnership enabling them to reach a global audience. We look forward to another year of sharing their incredible content with the passionate esports fanbase on Twitch.”
DreamHack will run 11 major esports events this year, giving out over $2 million in prize money. These will feature popular competitive games like Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Super Smash Bros., and Hearthstone. The next event, DreamHack Austin, takes place from April 28 to April 30.
