Starting on November 28, Bungie will offer a free trial version of Destiny 2, its online multiplayer shooter for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Destiny 2 launched on September 6 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version followed on October 24. It didn’t take long for it to became the best-selling game of the year in the U.S., according to The NPD Group’s report for September.
The trial (or demo, which has somehow become a forgotten word in the modern gaming landscape) will give players access to some of the campaign and the team-based competitive multiplayer. You can choose to pay for the full experience at any time and carry over your trial character and progress. We have asked Bungie to clarify what exactly will be available in the free trial and how long it will last. We will update this story if the studio responds.
Free trials are often a tactic to bring in more players. With Destiny 2’s early success, the timing of this might seem strange. But players have been grumbling that Destiny 2 does not have enough end-game content. The first paid expansion, Curse of Osiris, launches on December 5, and it will bring new things to do, including more Strikes and Raid (Destiny 2’s cooperative, multiplayer missions).
