Dark Crystal fans have a lot to celebrate in 2019. In addition to the upcoming Netflix Original TV series Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, developers Bonus XP and Krafton are making a game based on the new show. En Masse Entertainment is the publisher.
During the Nintendo Direct video at the 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo, the company revealed that Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. True to its name, Tactics looks like a turn-based tactical role-playing game. It’ll also be on the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.
Netflix came up yesterday at E3 during Ubisoft’s press briefing. The streaming service is making a movie based on The Division, an online shooter that takes place right after an apocalyptic event.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’s first hits Netflix on August 30. It follows the story of three Gelflings — the elf-like beings from the first film — that launch a rebellion after they learn about a dark secret that the Skeksis (the evil vulture-like creatures) hold. You can learn more about the world of Thra as well, especially when it comes to the Gelflings.
On the battlefield, you get gear, upgradeable abilities, and a job system. It has dynamic events during combat, which either give you an advantage of a disadvantage (the Skeksis do command a great deal of martial power). It also has a New Game+ mode.
“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics will allow fans to delve further into the history and world of Thra as they conduct multi-layered and evolving tactical battles on the side of the Gelfling against the Skeksis,” said Stefan Ramirez, the director of live services at En Masse Entertainment, in a canned statement. “Players will experience living, unpredictable environments that encompasses not only the events and characters of the Netflix series, but new game-exclusive characters, stories, and challenges.”
