Apple’s Final Cut Pro X, the latest update to its popular professional video editing software, is available for download today from the Mac App Store after first being announced in April. The software retails for $299.99.
The newest release of Final Cut promises to be the most powerful version ever because it includes 64-bit support for the first time ever. That means it will be able to use more than 4 gigabytes of RAM for processes. The software includes new features like the Magnetic Timeline, which lets video editors rearrange clips as needed without worrying about audio sync problems.
The launch also shows how committed Apple is to the Mac App Store, as Final Cut Pro X will only be sold as a download instead of traditional retail box.
Along with the Final Cut update, Apple has released Motion 5 and Compressor 4 apps, each retailing at $49.99 from the Mac App Store. Motion 5 helps editors with laying out clips and with modifying transitions and effects. Compressor 4 exists to give editors custom output settings, distributed encoding, and other delivery features.

Naturally, Apple has decided to discontinue the older Final Cut Express, Final Cut Server, and Final Cut Studio editions of the product with the availability of Final Cut Pro X. Apple Insider reported that all resellers will be able to return excess inventory of Express, Server, and Studio products.
