Content delivery network EdgeCast picks up $54M

money

EdgeCast, a content delivery network company, announced today that it has raised a fresh $54 million round of funding.

EdgeCast is responsible for a ton of content delivered over the Internet. The company has over 6,000 total clients — including Twitter, Yahoo, Imgur, Pinterest, Sony, and Hulu — that use EdgeCast’s services to speed up content delivery. Although admittedly, EdgeCast one of many CDNs used by those same clients. EdgeCast said it has an annual run rate of about $100 million, and has turned a profit for the last four years.

The startup said it plans to use the additional capital to continue growing the company by strengthening its footprint around the world, boosting security, and increase its engineering to improve performance. The new round of funding came from Performance Equity Management (PEM), with participation from previous investors Menlo Ventures and Steamboat Ventures.

Founded in 2006, the Los Angeles, Calif.-based startup has raised a total of $74 million in funding to date.
