During Apple’s live event today, CEO Tim Cook said that CarPlay, the company’s iOS-powered dashboard, is coming to “every major car brand.”
Cook said that CarPlay will be available on more than 40 different car models.
CarPlay, which rolled out a year ago, was designed to give drivers a “smarter, safer, and more fun” way to use iPhones in cars.
Cook did not reveal further details, such as timing, or which auto models would feature CarPlay.

The CarPlay announcement was part of Apple’s Spring Forward event, during which the company is expected to formally launch the Apple Watch. During the event, Apple also announced it had entered into an exclusive partnership with HBO that will bring the cable network’s much-anticipated stand-alone service, HBO Now, to Apple TV in April. Cook also said that Apple has sold more than 700 million iPhones since the smartphone franchise first launched in 2007.
