The Valley’s latest price war is going to be a doozy.
Yesterday, Uber sent its San Francisco users some good news: Effective immediately, Uber’s carpooling service (UberPool) now costs a flat rate of $5 in the city. Yep, just five bucks. Not bad, right?
One day later, Lyft has even better news. Like, mic drop news. The mustachioed ride sharing startup now charges $2.25 for its own on-demand carpool service — in certain parts of the city, of course.
Lyft, in case you forgot, is Uber’s kinder, gentler competitor and is totally not up to some dastardly, villanous deed with this suspiciously low price cut.

Who pays for ride sharing these days? I sure as hell don’t want to. And as for drivers who depend on Lyft and Uber to make a living, we’ll wait for details on how the two companies are handling all those messy details.
