Google today announced the launch of a new app for devices with Chrome OS — like a Chromebook, for example — that displays a different work of art from the Google Cultural Institute as your wallpaper every day.
The app, simply named Google Wallpaper Art, is now available from the Chrome Web Store.
“With this app, you’ll see every day wallpaper masterpieces ranging from Van Gogh and Monet, all the way to contemporary works from street artists around the world,” François Beaufort, the Chrome Happiness Evangelist at Google, wrote in a Google+ post today.
We were able to get the app running on a Chromebook. And the results are looking good.

It’s OK if you don’t like the first image you see. Just hit the blue “next wallpaper” button, and a different work of art will appear.
If you’re the type of person who likes something interesting to look at your desktop but just doesn’t have time to change it up from time to time, this app is worth checking out.
If you like this concept but you don’t have a Chromebook, or if you’d rather have art from the Google Cultural Institute show up every time you open a new browser tab, you might want to check out the Google Art Project Chrome extension, which launched earlier this year.
The Google Cultural Institute started in 2011 as a nonprofit program. Last year it launched a platform to help museums release mobile apps.
