Almost one month after launch, Samsung Pay has officially arrived for Verizon customers in the U.S.
Thus far, Samsung Pay has only been available to Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and the Galaxy Note 5 on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular. Verizon was the obvious omission for launch, and no real reason has been given for the delay.
It looks like the rollout has been happening for a few days already, with Verizon customers reporting that the necessary software update was landing on their devices. But with yesterday’s arrival of the new standalone Samsung Pay app on Google Play, it seems Samsung has taken the opportunity to officially announce that Verizon is now on board.
The mobile payment service supports contactless NFC payments and magnetic strips, meaning it can be used at more merchants in the U.S. than Apple Pay or Android Pay.
