As silly as an announcement announcing a further announcement sounds, that's exactly what Game Trailers TV host Geoff Keighly teased gamers with last Tuesday. Patrick Buechner, vice-president of marketing at Electronic Arts, tantalized us further with "Bioware fans, pay attention." The next day, Spike TV gave us this:
While we have to wait until Spike's Video Game Awards on December 11 for the official reveal, I can't find any reason not to engage in some good-natured speculation. Read on for the staff's thoughts and responses from the community!

A Baldur's Gate MMO. That's just complete, wild speculation on my part based on nothing at all.

I'm holding out for a BioWare/Gearbox partnership for a Mass Effect/Borderlands MMOFPS mash-up. And Baldur's Gate 3. If this is all just a Mass Effect 3 announcement I'm going to be a little cranky.

Everything I've read so far points to it being related to Mass Effect and multiplayer. I'm guessing EA wants to do Call of Duty in space before Activision does. Look for something along the lines of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

I haven't been following this, but why couldn't it just be a formal announcement of Mass Effect 3 or something trivial that's related to Dragon Age 2? Maybe something like a Cerberus Network equivalent.

Since the only real evidence seems to be pointing towards some sort of multiplayer offering in the Mass Effect universe, I'm not sure how much value there is in further conjecture.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun has made a rather convincing case for Shattered Steel, a mech sim and BioWare's first game. Maybe I'm just biased toward this suggestion due to the complete media blackout on new information regarding Smith and Tinker's revival of the MechWarrior series and my disappointment with Double Helix's take on Front Mission.

It's obviously going to be the 3DS sequel to Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood that we've been waiting for.

It's going to be Mass Effect 3, or 2.5, or DLC. I think the teaser image had Mass Effect ordinance in it.

Dare I hope for more Neverwinter Nights? The original was one of my favorite PC games of all time.

Personally, I hope they go back to medical software. While Canada is proud of its publicly funded health-care system, it is the number one drain on our economy. Should Bioware return to the field, they will be able to single handedly fund the entire country's Medicare with Star Wars: The Old Republic subscriptions alone. I hope they follow that up with DLC for CAT scans (which probably won't be available to hospitals that buy used machines).
And from the community
Below are responses to our Facebook and Twitter callout for your opinion on the matter. If you didn't reply then, now's your chance to have your say in the comments!
Jon Arnold: A Mass Effect spin off, for sure.
Kevin Ciarkowski: It's all part of Microsoft's ingenious plan: Wait until after the Kinect launch for anything nerdy or hardcore to be announced, otherwise you would scare off their target market. Now that Kinect is safely in the homes of a million families, we can start seeing more gamer-friendly fare, like from Bioware, maybe?
Daniel Fecteau: More dating sims.
Jeremy LaMont: Space Marines of Duty 2: The Baldening.
Edgar Mena: Neverwinter Nights Online.
Steve Nagy: A sequel to a beloved franchise.
Michael Pangelina: I hope to God it's Wii Bar Fight. I've been waiting for that one for so long.
Helena Reid: A Mass Effect MMO?
Mark Saldana: Mass Effect 3 please!
Suriel Vazquez: I don't think BioWare would make that much of a stink about it if they weren't going to revive some long-forgotten franchise.
Jason Wilson: Who cares? True award shows should be about the winners — not future hopefuls.
Tony Ziporlin: A new Jade Empire?
