Kevin Pereira - Quantum Conundrum

While many publishers promote new releases with simple banners or trailers, Square Enix is going a step further with its latest title, Quantum Conundrum. SE is teaming up with production company Iam8bit to produce The Super Dimensional Quantum Learning’s Problems and Solutions Gametime Spectacular. It’s a game show, and yes, that’s the actual name.

Kevin Pereira, the former co-host of G4’s Attack of the Show, is the face of the program. He’ll be challenging contestants to a series of tasks based on levels in Quantum Conundrum, a new first-person puzzle game from developer Airtight Games (and Portal lead designer Kim Swift). Pereira will be joined by a puppet named Ike, who’s based on a character from QC.

Based off of the teaser Iam8bit released today, it appears that this game show will have some pretty solid production values. We’ll have to wait for the forthcoming episodes to see what the challenges and setup will specifically look like, but so far, things look promising.

I’m digging this novel publicity approach outside of standard advertisements. It’s a smart move on Square Enix’s part to help promote a title that might otherwise not get as much attention as bigger releases. Plus, kudos to Iam8bit for continuing to be innovative in putting together creative productions for game releases (like they did with Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and Rhythm Heaven: Fever). The key difference this time is that Iam8bit is using online video to get the message out, compared to its usual launch events at the Iam8bit gallery in Los Angeles, Calif.

Quantum Conundrum is currently available for PC through Steam and is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network the second week of July.
