Apple says it has fixed iOS 10 update issue that ‘bricked’ some iPhones and iPads

Apple today was bombarded with complaints from some people after they attempted to install the iOS 10 update on compatible mobile devices, only to find that the devices became unresponsive. But now, a couple of hours after the update started going out, Apple says the issue is fixed.

“We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability,” Apple told VentureBeat in a statement. “The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.”

The other way to install is the over-the-air (OTA) update. But that’s what caused issues for some people. So iTunes may be the more reliable path.

While this certainly isn’t the best thing to happen with the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system on release day, it’s not as bad as Error 53 that “bricked” some people’s iOS devices for much longer than a few hours earlier this year.
