Skillz raises $6M

You don’t have to live the life of a pro gamer to make money with your gaming abilities. Mobile-tech startup Skillz has raised $6 million to expand its real-money wagering platform. The company lets players enter tournaments for a fee with the winner taking the biggest portion of the prize pool. Competitive gaming is a growing business, and Skills is providing a way for everyday gamers to participate right from their smartphones or tablets. Atlas Venture led the funding round.

Clay.io’s scoops up $550K 

Kik Messenger may have been a lone wolf pushing HTML5 on mobile, but that’s made it the perfect partner for mobile games marketplace Clay.io. Clay.io, founded in 2012, is a marketplace for games currently living inside Kik’s platform, and it’s announcing today that it has raised $550,000 in seed funding from gaming companies DeNA and Chukong, along with Indeed co-founder Rony Kahan, to keep entertaining Kik users.
