Ark: Survival Evolved just left Early Access on Wednesday, and Studio Wildcard is wasting no time announcing new premium-priced content. The Aberration pack, as Wildcard is calling it, debuts October for the PC and console versions. It will focus on a harsh new land mass with dangerous radiation surges and lush areas hidden underground.
To make Aberration worth it for fans, Wildcard is packing it with tons of new content. Players will encounter totally new creatures. The radiation has mutated most of the animals into abominations, such as a gigantic crustacean. But, as always, players will have the option to tame many of these beasts for their own purposes. Aberration also introduces a new helmet and sword made from obsidian-like bedrock. Those come alongside 50 new items that players can craft to help them survive and thrive.
Wildcard will of course use Aberration to give its fans new challenges. The deadly surface will force players to constantly juggle the game’s maintenance systems, but Ark survivors should also keep an eye open for malfunctions, earthquakes, and gas leaks.
This is the second major expansion for Ark. Wildcard previously launched the Scorched Earth add-on for $20 last September. That introduced flying dragon-like enemies that players could tame and mount. Scorched Earth, however, launched while Ark was still in Early Access. It led to some backlash from fans who have complained that the development team was putting resources into making new gated content instead of finishing the core experience for players who already paid for that.

Now that it has reached its full 1.0 status, fans shouldn’t have the same complaints about Aberration. But that doesn’t mean they will all show up to spend money on this new DLC. As part of hitting the retail release, Wildcard has also launched Survival Evolved as a packaged disc. The core game is $60 through shops like GameStop. But you can also buy a $100 Explorers Edition that includes the Aberration expansion at no additional cost.
