Hidetaka Suehiro, the writer and director of cult hit Deadly Premonition, today announced that he’s stepping aside from game development, at least for a while.
Suehiro, also known as Swery, has a reputation for creating off-the-wall games, and the bizarre and unsettling Deadly Premonition, first released on Xbox 360 back in 2010, is a prime example. Sadly, Suehiro — who most recently wrote and directed the episodic D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die for Xbox One and PC — is now taking a break from development as he recovers from reactive hypoglycemia. It’s a medical condition where sufferers experience dangerous drops in glucose levels around four hours after eating.
“Unfortunately, I have some bad news for you all,” said Suehiro. “Starting today, I will be taking a short break from game development in order to focus on recovering from reactive hypoglycemia. I’m already slow enough at making games as it is, and I feel like all I ever do is make my fans wait. … But I’ve decided that I need to take a rest here so that I can hopefully continue to make games in the future.”
Suehiro added that he will keep checking his messages as much as he can and hopes to return to make even better games in the future.
