Destiny 2 is a big hit. Bungie claims today that its online shooter, which launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, has had the biggest console game launch week of the year.

And the PC version is still coming on October 24.

Bungie also noted that Destiny 2 surpassed its predecessor’s records for launch week digital sales and engagement. Fans and critics (including us) have been impressed with the sequel’s improved story, structure, and mechanics.

“We hit some great milestones this week with our community.” Bungie chief executive officer Pete Parsons said in a press release sent to GamesBeat, “We are blown away that we’ve had eight days in a row in Destiny 2 where we’ve seen more than one-million concurrent players grace our worlds. It’s equal parts inspiring and humbling, and we’re looking forward to showing everyone what’s coming next!”

Right now, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands is the best-selling game of the year in the U.S., according to The NPD Group. Although that tactical shooter has the advantage of coming out earlier in the year in March, Destiny 2 could still climb its way up the sales charts.

But it will have to compete with some other big games coming out during the rest of the year, including Call of Duty: WWII, Star Wars: Battlefront II, and Super Mario Odyssey.
