Final Fantasy IX is now on PlayStation 4

Square Enix revealed during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference today that it has released Final Fantasy IX digitally for PlayStation 4. This version includes the HD enhancements to character models and cutscenes that came with 2016’s PC and mobile versions, and it also includes PlayStation 4 features like Trophies, Capture support, and Remote Play.

Final Fantasy IX first came out for the original PlayStation in 2000 and sold over 5 million copies. Although it came out late in that system’s life (and many people were looking forward to Final Fantasy X for the PlayStation 2, which was announced on the same day as Final Fantasy IX), the Japanese role-playing game developed a large fan base thanks to its memorable characters, story, and music.

The PlayStation 4 version also includes the boosters that Square Enix added to the PC and mobile releases. These include things like the option to turn off random battles or put the game in high-speed mode. The PS4 version also comes with a Final Fantasy IX theme for the console and eight profile avatars based on the game’s characters.

On a personal level, Final Fantasy IX is one of my favorite games, and I consider it the best entry in the series.
