From Software working to fix Bloodborne’s long load times

Bloodborne revels in killing its players, and its seriously long load times make each death a little more painful. But developer From Software is planning to fix that.

The PlayStation 4-exclusive action role-playing game releases in North America today, and it’s getting great reviews. Some players got their hands on it ahead of schedule, though, and discovered that the game has some seriously long gaps in the action when you die.

Previous titles in the notoriously difficult Souls series — of which Bloodborne is a sequel in all but name — have suffered from technical problems, such as stuttering and a poor framerate. But none have been plagued with the load times of between 30 and 40 seconds that Bloodborne has after each player death. That fact that you’ll die frequently means you’ll be seeing a lot of the static loading screen with just the Bloodborne logo.

Bloodborne is From Software’s first game created solely for current-gen hardware, and we maybe should have expected less technical hiccups. But at least the developer is trying to address the problem.

“The development team is currently exploring another patch for Bloodborne, seeking ways to improve load time duration in addition to other performance optimizations and miscellaneous bug fixes,” said From Software in a statement reported by Just Push Start.

Being based in the U.K., I have to wait until Friday to get my Bloodborne fix, but I’m sure as hell looking forward to it — crazy load times or not.
