Nintendo will finally release the first Pokémon games for its 3DS handheld in October. Pokémon X and Y will take place in a new region, and it will introduce several new pocket monsters.

Pokémon developer Game Freak revealed one of those new creatures today. The Pokémon’s name is Honedge. It is a Steel- and Ghost-type that comes into existence after a spirit possesses a sword. It has a blue cloth that hangs off its hilt that it can use as an arm.

In addition to the new monster, Game Freak director Junichi Masuda confirmed that the developer based Pokémon X and Y’s Kalos region on France. The studio also based Lumiose City, the capital of Kalos, on Paris.

“We decided to use beauty as a game theme and — when thinking about where such a place would be — we were inspired by one country in particular,” said Masuda. “A country that is is reported to be the most visited in the world. A country which is very particular about fashion and the aesthetics of their cuisine. A country concerned with the beauty of words. Yup, we though of France.”
