Which Version Should I Get?
You’ve got the three different versions to pick from, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages.

As is now typical (unfortunately?) the more you pay the more content you’ll receive. For the Standard Edition of Evolve, you’ll get 3 monsters to start out, but if you pre-order you get a 4th monster in the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions of the game for free. If you get the most expensive “Monster Race Edition” you’ll get all 5 monsters, and all the content that will eventually be available in the near future.
The various type of DLC content essentially breaks down into the number of Hunters and Monsters you can play as. Certain DLCs/edition comes with cosmetic addition such as skins for the Hunters/Monsters too. Below is a nice little chart to give you a heads up on what each edition grants you.
Comparing the Evolve Editions
Upcoming Evolve DLCs
In conclusion, the best version is go with is either all-in via the pricey Monster Race Edition, or go with the Standard Edition for now. We don’t recommend taking the middle road.Dollar wise, the best value for all the content by far is the Monster Race Edition, BUT you’re forced to fork over $100 ($75 only after discount thankfully).
Monster Race is great if Evolve turns out to be a home run and you’ve just saved yourself that headache of buying new DLC when it comes out. The other side of the coin is that if Evolve doesn’t jive well with you, you just spent gobs of money (at least it’s cheaper than a gambling addiction?). If you love Evolve and you buy the Monster Race Edition, you’ll love your decision, or if you buy and you dislike the game you’ll regret it – but you have a 50/50 shot of having a great outcome.
What doesn’t make sense is going with the middle road Digital Deluxe Edition. If Evolve turns out to be the greatest game since Mario, you’re going to regret not stepping up to the Monster Race Edition since you’ll have to buy extra DLC for more cash. On the flip side, if Evolve is not on par with expectations, you’ll regret spending more than you had to, thus you’re not really winning either way.
For the risk adverse that’s interested in Evolve (after beta period, watching reviews/play throughs etc.) we’d recommend going the Standard Edition route. You’ll still get a piece of the action and if it’s a great game you might be okay spending the extra cash on the Season Pass and extra DLC. If Evolve flops, at least you didn’t go overboard right?
