Monolith Soft reveals battle gameplay for its Wii U role-playing game X

Nintendo of America hasn’t forgotten about Monolith Soft’s previously announced role-playing game known as X.

The company showed off an extended battle sequence from the game during its Nintendo Direct presentation today. It revealed a team of characters using massive swords and guns to take down a gigantic enemy.

“The game’s battle system is based on Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii, but with even more polish,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said.

The executive did not reveal a release date, adding that more information is coming later this year.

Nintendo previously announced X in early 2013. The game is a spiritual successor to the beloved role-playing game Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii. Monolith is hoping to fully exploit the power of the Wii U to bring the HD world fully to life in a way that the standard-definition Wii couldn’t.

“The goal is to create a large-scale open world that players can explore seamlessly,” Iwata said in June. “The team is using their experience from creating Xenoblade to make this goal a reality.”
