The Amiibos are welcoming some new friends

Nintendo’s upcoming line of action figures will talk with Wii U games like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors via the GamePad. While the initial wave of Amiibos are all classic Nintendo characters like Mario and Link, a future set features some heroes from third-party developers and publishers.

Namely, Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog and Capcom’s Mega Man get their own figures as a part of a wave of new Amiibos that launches early next year in Japan. You can see a gallery of all 11 new characters below.

Sonic and Mega Man are both fighters in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, so this move may not seem entirely surprising. Still, people were unsure if the third-party characters would get Amiibo support. Another third-party Smash Bros. character, Namco’s Pac-Man, does not have a figure announced.
