OnLive has launched the fantasy role-playing game Rogue Legacy on its game-streaming service.

The title is the first in a while to debut on the service and comes from Toronto, Canada-based indie game startup Cellar Door Games. Rogue Legacy is available now for instant play on PCs, Macs, Android tablets, and TVs that support the OnLive Game Service.

OnLive was a high-flying startup that embraced cloud gaming, but it soared too high, ran out of money, and went through a change in ownership last summer. Now it is gunning for a comeback, albeit in a more low-key manner. The service uses cloud technology to enable you to play high-end games, like Rogue Legacy, on any connected device.

The new game pays homage to the legendary 1980s dungeon crawler, Rogue. Rogue Legacy is an action-platformer with procedurally generated levels and permadeath. That means it’s an endless experience that isn’t easy to finish. You can buy the game on the OnLive Game Service for $14.99, and it is also available via subscription options.

“Rogue Legacy makes brilliant use of permadeath and procedurally generated content to create a brutally fun game,” said Michael Toy, one of the co-creators of Rogue and part of the technical team at OnLive. “I’m thrilled to see that these features are being embraced by young developers.”

“We’re delighted to have Rogue Legacy on the service,” said Kevin Keating, publisher relations for OnLive. “OnLive’s unique spectating and social features mean great indie games like this get fantastic traction and, through the players, the visibility they deserve.”
