We finally got a decent look at Persona 5.
Japanese developer and publisher Atlus showed off a new trailer for the upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 role-playing game today as part of its Persona Channel 2015 streaming event.
The trailer shows familiar Persona elements like a classroom setting, a calendar, the Persona-fusing Igor character, and plenty of menus. Also, while Persona 4 had Teddy and Persona 3 had a dog as mascot characters, it looks like a cat will take up that role this time. And while the characters of Persona 4 wore special glasses while they fought, Persona 5’s cast wears masquerade masks.
Dungeon exploration, however, looks pretty different. The main character is shown jumping from chandeliers and even short-range teleporting. That’s quite a departure from the no-thrills dungeon-crawling of past Persona games. You can watch the video for yourself below.

The Persona series is a spin-off of the Megami Tensei franchise of role-playing games, all of which focus on fighting and summoning demons. The original Persona came out in 1996 for the PlayStation, but the series really began to find popularity after the release of Persona 3 for the PlayStation 2 in 2006.
Since then, the Persona franchise has seen a lot of its own spin-offs, including fighting games, portable remakes, and even an upcoming dance- and music-based game called Persona 4: Dancing All Night, which is coming out for the PS Vita this year. However, we haven’t had a new entry in the numbered series since Persona 4 in 2008 for the PlayStation 2.
We don’t currently have a release date for Persona 5, although Atlus says it will come out this year.
