Silent Hill: Revelation, the sequel to 2006’s Silent Hill movie, takes us back to the horrific resort town — this time following Heather Mason and the events of the game Silent Hill 3.
Director Michael J. Bassett crammed as much fan service into Revelation as possible, including characters, locations, creatures, and more.
Hardcore Silent Hill fans will also spot references to other games in the series, like Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 and Travis Grady from Silent Hill: Origins, but I’m only focusing on Silent Hill 3 for this feature.

Silent Hill: Revelation vs. Silent Hill 3
Heather Mason is the adoptive daughter of Harry Mason and the protagonist of Silent Hill: Revelation and Silent Hill 3. Her physical appearance and outfit are almost identical although she shows more skin in the game.
Heather is tormented by a horrible nightmare of a hellish amusement park in a town called Silent Hill. At least in the movie she has Harry to comfort her.
To the horror of every Silent Hill fan, Harry gets murdered by the Missionary creature halfway through Silent Hill 3. In the movie, Harry’s demise only occurs in Heather’s nightmare. Actor Sean Bean can’t help getting killed in everything he appears in.
In the game, private investigator Douglas Cartland stalks Heather at the mall. In the movie, he harasses her at her high school. I’m not sure which is creepier.
In Revelations, Heather celebrates her 17th birthday with her father and then watches a girl (who also happens to be called Heather) celebrate hers at the mall. Coincidence? In the game, Heather receives a mysterious call on a disconnected payphone inside a locker. The caller wishes her a happy birthday, to which Heather replies: “But you’re wrong. … It’s not my birthday.”
Vincent Cooper looks nothing like Vincent Smith, the character he is based on, but at least he’s here and has connections to Silent Hill. Movie Vincent is a student at Heather’s school and a member of the Order because of his mother, Claudia Wolf. He kinda looks like Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, doesn’t he? In the game, Vincent is a priest who ends up getting stabbed in the back by Claudia for badmouthing “god.”
Heather calls Harry to let him know that she’s fine. Her last words to him, in both the movie and game, are “I love you.”
Sadly, in Silent Hill 3, she would never speak to him again.
Heather wields the iconic steel pipe to protect herself from nosey detectives. She also shoots monsters in the face with a handgun. Too bad other weapons from the game, like the samurai sword and Sexy Beam, didn’t make it into the movie.
Heather doesn’t know how to drive (or own a car), so she needs a lift to get to Silent Hill. In the movie she rides with Vincent while in the game, she goes with Douglas.
The “otherworld” version of Silent Hill is pitch black, so Heather needs a flashlight to navigate the town. The flashlight in the movie doesn’t fit inside the pocket of Heather’s jacket, but why would she want it to?
The Seal of Metatron reveals the true nature of whoever touches it. When Heather takes the talisman to Silent Hill, it transforms Leonard Wolf and Claudia (more on them later) into grotesque beasts. In the game, Heather finds the seal after defeating Leonard, but it does absolutely nothing.
The motel room that Heather and Vincent rent has a red shoe on the bed’s headboard. This is a reference to the red shoe in Silent Hill 3 that Heather needs to place besides a Cinderella doll in Lakeside Amusement Park.
The Halo of the Sun is the symbol of the Order, the group of religious nuts that Claudia and Vincent belong to. In the game, Heather can save her progress at Halo of the Sun symbols scattered through Silent Hill.
Silent Hill is littered with old, abandoned wheelchairs. Here you can see one at the edge of a street (movie) and another one inside a dumpster (game).
I wasn’t sure what monsters from Silent Hill eat, but now I know. The cooked dog that Heather finds in Revelation is considerably smaller than the one in Silent Hill 3, but it’s just as disturbing.
Mannequins are creepy, especially ones that bleed. Heather even encounters some sort of spider-mannequin thing in Revelation. Plus, we learn that these plastic dolls used to be human.
Heather searches for Leonard Wolf in Brookhaven Hospital (an asylum in the film). The map on the wall is an exact replica of the one in the game.
Heather meets a horribly disfigured Leonard Wolf in the game, but he didn’t always look like that. In Revelation, we see Claudia’s father in a slightly more human form. Still disgusting, though.
The sexy nurses from the first Silent Hill movie are back. The ones in Silent Hill 3 don’t look as hot, but they’re still supermodels compared to the hunchbacked freaks from the first game.
Robbie is the mascot of the Lakeside Amusement Park in Silent Hill. Heather comes across a guy in a Robbie suit sitting on a bench with his mouth covered in blood. Aside from the giant costume, you can spot plush toys of the pink bunny throughout the movie.
Heather visits many locations from the game, including Lakeside Amusement Park (pictured), Jack’s Inn, Central Square Shopping Center, and more.
In an attempt to stop a new “god” from being born, the last remains of Alessa inside Heather create a scary doppelgänger to take her life. In the game, the memory of Alessa behaves like a twitchy zombie, but in the movie, she gives Heather a lengthy speech about love and hate. My favorite line: “Everyone has a different nightmare in Silent Hill.”
Claudia runs the Order and won’t rest until her god is reborn. I like the Claudia from the game better because she seems more passionate about her goals — even going as far as eating a fetus previously puked by Heather. Movie Claudia (actress Carrie-Anne Moss) is just pissed because Trinity died in The Matrix: Revolutions.
Valtiel, a sort of twisted guardian angel of the Order, makes a peculiar appearance in Revelation as a novelty chair. Claudia ties Harry to Valtiel and plans to sacrifice him to feed her god when it is reborn. In the game, if Heather dies, Valtiel drags her to the nearest save point so she can resurrect — not because he cares about her but because he needs Heather to give birth to his god.
In the movie, when Claudia touches the Seal of Metatron, she transforms into the Missionary — a savage monster in a dominatrix outfit with blades stuck in her head and arms. She looks like a cross between Chatterer and CD the DJ from Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth. In Silent Hill 3, the Missionary looks like a butcher with a sack of potatoes over his head. Claudia sends it to kill Harry Mason.
