Between games like Apex Legends, Anthem, Far Cry: New Dawn, Metro Exodus, Crackdown 3, and a host of indies, you have plenty to choose from in the new-games department. Ubisoft is hoping you’ll select The Division 2, and it is planning to launch its open beta for players on all platforms beginning March 1 to help convince you. This will give everyone a taste of the online cooperative shooter’s gameplay and apocalyptic Washington, D.C. setting.
The open beta runs March 1 through March 4. Ubisoft hasn’t shared any more details, but the publisher is planning to give more information soon. This open test will likely expand on the closed beta that just finished for players who preordered the game.
The Division 2 launches March 15 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
What to expect from The Division 2
The Division 2 takes place seven months after the first game, which launches March 2016. It continues the story of Americans struggling to return to order after a deadly virus. While the first game takes place in a snowy New York, The Division 2 happens during the summer in D.C. This replaces the pristine, snowy NYC with a hot and sticky Virginia and Maryland.
Ubisoft is attempting to set The Division 2 apart from its predecessor by having more content at launch. The Division eventually got to a point where it had a satisfying campaign that led into a lot of endgame content. But that took some time and a lot of updates.
This time around, Ubisoft is promising that kind of experience out of the gate.
“Building upon more than two years of listening to and learning from The Division community, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will offer a substantial campaign that organically flows into a robust endgame, to create a cohesive and meaningful experience for all types of players,” reads a Ubisoft press release.
Delivering on that commitment will likely prove crucial for The Division 2 as it competes against similar games like Destiny 2 and Warframe as well as the upcoming Anthem. The game that can keep its most dedicated fans that happiest will likely come out on top.
