OnLive and Mad Catz are teaming up to launch cloud-streamed games on the TV via the Mojo microconsole. Their goal is to bring triple-A games to bigger screens using OnLive’s Android app and cloud-streaming technology.

With OnLive, gamers can play a big PC or console game even if the device, in this case the Mojo microconsole, doesn’t have enough horsepower to run it natively. The microconsole connects to OnLive’s web-connected cloud servers, where the game code runs. The server then streams video back to the device, which displays the images on screens such as monitors or TVs.

Microconsoles haven’t sold that well to date. But these companies are hoping to improve the overall experience with a new generation.

The two companies say they have completed joint development to optimize the OnLive Android app for the Mad Catz Mojo. The Mad Catz microconsole for Android can stream PC games from OnLive’s high-end gaming servers. OnLive has more than 250 triple-A games available in its PlayPack game service bundle as well as game libraries that use OnLive’s new CloudLift service, which makes games playable on multiple platforms.

The OnLive Android app is customized to work with Mojo and the Mad Catz C.T.R.L.R. Mobile Gamepad, which are both part of the Mad Catz GameSmart family of mobile hardware devices.

“We designed Mojo to a high specification, as we conceived the platform to grow and evolve, encompassing new features and services over time,” said Darren Richardson, the president and chief executive officer of Mad Catz, “With the new generation of Cloud Gaming that OnLive heralds, gamers can now play triple-A and PC Steam-purchased games in high-definition through their Mojo. With our dedicated C.T.R.L.R, we can move the high-end gaming experience away from the desktop PC and into the living room.”

“One of our best features is that OnLive brings big games to small devices,” said Rick Sanchez, the vice president of product and marketing at OnLive. “We want to be everywhere the gamer wants to play their games, and Mojo from Mad Catz is a perfect fit in every respect. As a micro-console powered by Android, it’s powerful beyond its size, and now by installing the optimized OnLive Android app, users have access to the latest triple-A games from publishers like Codemasters, Deep Silver, Devolver Digital, Gaijin Entertainment, Kalypso, Paradox, and Warner Bros.”
