Super Evil Megacorp isn’t pulling back on its plans to dominate esports on mobile devices.

The studio revealed today that Vainglory, a multiplayer online arena battler for the Amazon Appstore, the iOS App Store and Google Play, is getting its Summer Season Championships for North America and Europe regions in Seattle and Cologne, respectively. Competitive gaming is an $892 million business — and growing. Super Evil Megacorp is hoping to capitalize on the smartphone and tablet sector of this market while most other esports developers and companies focus on the PC. Holding official events like Vainglory Summer Season Championships is part of that overall effort to breathe life into competitive gaming on touchscreen devices.

These two competitions will bring together the top eight teams from the North American and European regions. Amazon and its app store are sponsoring the event. The winners for each region will qualify for the fall season, where they will have the opportunity to earn a place in the first 12-team Vainglory World Championship this December.

The North American Vainglory event will take place alongside the Penny Arcade Expo from September 2 through September 4 at Amazon’s event center. PAX-goers can attend for free, and everyone else buy a ticket for $5. The European Championships will take place in ESL’s Esports Arena in Germany on September 9 through September 11. Tickets for that event are available here for $12.60.

In addition to this new tournament, the studio has unleashed an update for Vainglory that is available now on all platforms. This patch introduces new cosmetic items, kill streaks, and a revised banning system. Super Evil Megacorp is also introducing computer-controlled bots so players can practice offline instead of against other people.
