World of Warships is entering open beta worldwide today. Publisher Wargaming is inviting anyone who wants to join the free-to-play online shooter to start commanding their own enormous floating fortresses of death. The beta features over 80 ships from America and Japan along with 10 maps for 24-player battles. It has two modes that will pit teams of real players against one another or a team of players against computer-controlled opponents.

In addition to the aforementioned American and Japanese ships, Wargaming is now adding vessels from the British and U.S.S.R. navies. The developer is also introducing signal flags, which players can add to their ships for different cosmetic and functional effects. Signal flags may give you extra experience, improved speed, or other buffs.
Finally, anyone who has spent money previously in World of Warships closed betas or alphas will get that credit put back into their Wargaming accounts. They can use it on new ships or improvements.
World of Warships is the latest major release from the successful Wargaming company. The publisher has previously generated serious revenue from its World of Tanks and World of Warplanes games. With Warships entering open beta, Wargaming is now operating three major free-to-play games.
