Amazon has announced a new thinner and lighter Kindle ereader that sports twice the memory and a handful of fresh reading features, including the ability to export notes and highlights from a book to your email, built-in support for Bluetooth audio, and more. These are the same software updates that were rolled out earlier this year to the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Voyage devices.
The new device is available in black and — for the first time in a while for the base model — white. The latest Kindle is 16 percent lighter than the previous incarnation and has 11 percent less girth, meaning this is aimed squarely at those who like to read one-handed.
To accompany the new Kindle launch, Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite, which starts at $120, is also now available in white. Both are available for preorder now, with an expected shipping date of July 7.
Today’s announcement comes two months after the internet giant rolled out the premium Kindle Oasis ereader, its most expensive reader at $290.
