A Czech software pirate who was found guilty of copyright infringement in a local district court is trying to avoid paying Microsoft and other companies hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages by making a YouTube video in which he talks about what he did and why it’s wrong.
The pirate, who goes by the name Jakub F, will only serve “the general part” of his sentence if he manages to get 200,000 views of his video (see below), according to an article today from TorrentFreak.
The man also made a website, mojepiratstvi.cz, to promote the video. So far the video has received 84,725 views, after being live for three days.

It’s probably in Jakub’s best interest that people don’t publish pirated versions of the video that could result in fewer views.
Update at 3:23 p.m. Pacific on November 26: The video has received 582,514 views, so it looks like Jakub is off the hook when it comes to paying the fines.
